The notebook is known for having beautiful, very thin, bleed-resistant paper that features a subtle pale gray grid squares pattern (each square is 4mmx4mm). There is a delicate 0-24 timeline that runs up the left edge of each page, allowing users to customise each page for journaling, planning, or note-taking etc. And there is a tiny month, day, date area in the top right of each page.

The Leuchtturm1917 Notebook: A5
The Leuchtturm 1917 comes in a huge variety of sizes, colours, and covers (hard and softback) and has a nice mix of style, quality and functionality. I bought the A5 plain paper softback version.

Stylish Writing Instruments That Inspire
There are thousands of writing pens and pencils on the market so I’ve just pulled together some of my favourites that I have bought for myself and my family recently.
Glass Fountain Pen Sets
Glass fountain pens are all about creative fun. They look fabulous, feel gorgeous, and add a touch of sophisticated fun and style to desk areas. Just dip the pen in the ink and draw/write. Clean in water and choose another colour… so simple!

I love how pretty they look and how tactile they are. Plus they provide some beautiful moments of calm and well-being (as long as you don’t drop them or knock over the ink!)
You can get some great sets on Amazon for brilliant prices like this Glass Fountain Pen Box Set that comes with a great range of glitter inks. There are also 1 ink pen sets available and of course you can just buy the glass fountain pen. I’ve bought Amazon and Herbin brand pens and the difference is very subtle for beginners; no bubbles, better symmetry and balance of shape. Personally I think it’s all about the pen colour.
Papier Pens
I discovered Papier and their pens unboxing their stationery advent calendars. I don’t like everything they do and some of their colour palettes and design were not to my liking this year. But I do love their classic rollerball style that gives off perfect 70’s styling… it’s currently on offer! And I’m also a fan of their wave pen range.

Each pen is well made and thoughtfully designed, combining functionality with aesthetic appeal, making them suitable for both everyday use and special occasions. You can find their full range of pens here.
Troika Construction Tool Pen
I discovered the Troika brand when I opened the Cult Pens 2024 Stationery Advent Calendar. It included the gorgeous orange construction pen in the photo below. I loved that pen so much that I went for a deeper dive into the brand and discovered the even more magnificent (and hugely practical) Troika Construction Tool Pen!

The Troika Construction Tool Pen is a must-have for all students. As well as being a nicely balanced ballpoint pen, completely made or metal. It also incorporates a cm ruler, a built-in spirit level, and an end stylus for touchscreen devices. But that’s not all! Unscrew the cap end and you’ll find a mini screwdriver with an interchangeable slotted and Phillips head.
It comes in a fabulous range of colours including black (as shown), gold, silver, greens, blues, greys, reds, oranges. There’s a colour to suit everyone!
You can purchase the construction tool pen here and can view their full range of products here.
Uni Emott Fineliners
These are essential for detailed writing, underlining, adding delicate touches to notes and journals or just doodling in a favourite notebook. I’ve bought plenty of Stabilo and Staedler packs in the past but my current favourite due to the colour range, quality, and styling are the Uni Emott fine liners.

The Uni EMOTT fine liner pens are beautifully slim, sleek, and just delightful to use. They have a 0.4mm tip that resists bending or splitting, contain water-resistant, non-bleed, and fade-proof ink and come in vivid and pastel shades. They always come with some type of container, whether it be an upright stand, sleek box, or pencil case. And I like that you can buy the full set of 40, packs of 10, 5, 4 or single pens which is handy if you need to replace a couple of favourites that run out before the rest.
You can see the full range here and on Amazon.
Cute Legami Erasable Pens
Cute, practical and mess-free, these erasable pens allow students to keep their notes neat, even if they make mistakes. The heat-sensitive gel based ink rubs off easily without damaging the paper and is beautiful to write with. There are loads of different themes and designs to choose from plus each pen has a few words of positivity written down the side.
Add in the sleek design, ink colour choices and the availability of refills and you have a cost-effective and environmentally friendly choice as well.

You can buy them singly, in themed sets of three or in larger bundles of 15-20 (depending on where you shop). Whatever you purchase they are sure to brighten up a rather dull day!
Pentel Brush Sign Pens
Pentel Brush Sign Pens are hugely versatile and another fun writing tool. They feature a flexible fiber tip, allowing for variable line widths from extra fine to medium, depending on the pressure applied. This makes them perfect for for hand lettering, calligraphy, sketching, colouring in, illustrating and creating colourful and creative study notes.

The pens are available in a wide array of colors, including both brights and pastel shades. You can find out more about them and see the range here

Stationery Gift Desk Top Accessories & Study Aids
The following are practical and aesthetic stationery desk-top items that I’ve bought myself and my girls over the years.
Scrapbooking Calendar Stamps
Fun and functional, these stamps allow students to mark dates, assignments, or reminders creatively in planners, journals, and notebooks. They’re another way of adding creative fun to a potentially drab page. These three sets are all slightly different and all equally useful. for creating monthly, weekly and daily tasks, list and checkpoints.
- The Paper Poetry set is perfect for helping with monthly and daily activities
Don’t forget you’ll need at least one ink pad and I’d recommend getting some acrylic blocks to make suing the stamps easier.
Pen Pot Holder
A must-have for keeping pens, pencils, and highlighters easily accessible on the desk. There are lots on the market but this one recently caught my eye as a gift for one of my girls as it hugely suits her aesthetic. It’s a 3d print and uses a mix of vegetable material, consisting of a clever mixture of wood, plant fibers from recycling and bioplastic from corn fermentation. The texture of the material really suits the gorgeous shapes.

It’s available on Etsy and originates from France so delivery took a couple of weeks to arrive.
Pencil Case
These pencil cases are all about function and style. They’re more for storage than taking out and about and perfect for keeping collections of pens and pencils together that you don’t want out on permanent display.

- Rhodia Tray Pencil Case – is fabulous for storage and use. It zips up into a stackable rectangle and comes in a fabulous range of colours.
- Stand-up Japanese Pencil Case – is another fantastic storage case. And when open the pens/pencils naturally lean out without making the case fall down.
- Kikkerland Felt Pencil case – has a multi-functional lid. One side works as a phone stand and is perfect for storing loops. The other side has 14cm and 5-inch ruler markings
Helix Desk Top Sharpener
The Helix Desk Top Sharpener is a classic, high-quality desk sharpener that’s practical and essential for anyone using pencils regularly. Mine is over 15 years old and still going strong. And my girls all have one as well. Threre

Novelty & Standard Paper Clips
Perfect for keeping notes, assignments, and papers organized. Novelty clips add a bit of fun, to the standard functionality but only if they work! And if they’re brightly coloured they’re easier to find if you drop one!

- The copper heart-shaped paper clips are super sweet work well and come in a handy storage box.
- I love fun colour and shape of the Rico Paper Poetry circle clips
- And the little smiley-faced OHTO clips always brighten my day as well as being very handy!
Sticky Notes
Stick-it notes are great for quick reminders or organising thoughts. I taught my eldest to make priority lists to help manage her university workload using them. The key is to include a variety of colors to make it easy for students to color-code notes or flag important info.
Classic vibrantly coloured Post-Its are always a great value choice and you can always find lots on Amazon. For something a little special then check out ‘A Pocket Full of Sticky Notes’ by Papier
