advert: Dolls gifted in exchange for a review
Candylocks Scented Dolls are the latest collectible toy release from Spin Master. With oodles of long ‘cotton-candy, sweet-smelling colourful hair, you can style and accessorize it any way you like.
There are three different types of doll to collect:
- 7-Inch Sugar Style Deluxe Scented Collectible Doll with Accessories (2 dolls to collect)
- BFF 2-Pack Scented Collectible Dolls with Accessories (4 bbf packs to collect)
- Scented Collectible Surprise Doll with Accessories (over 20 dolls to collect)
We were sent one of each to open up.

Candylocks 7-Inch Sugar Style Deluxe Scented
Lacey Lemonade comes with 4 accessories and a collectors guide. There are no surprises with this doll, you can see all of her accessories through the packaging. Her accessories consist of super cute sunglasses, a bag, hair chalk (that you can use on your hair or Laceys) and a hair extension that you can also put in your or her hair!
Her gorgeous 12 inch long hair smells lightly of lemonade and is a beautiful mix of baby pink and yellow hair strands; the front two have been gently twisted together.
It’s important to mention that the Candylock Scented Dolls hair is NOT MEANT TO BE BRUSHED.
Lacey’s size is really nice to play with and her hair is easy to plait, knot, twist and pin. The texture of the hair makes it easy to create styles that stay in place although you do have to get used to what works. The easiest way to style her hair was to make lots of loose knots on top of each other.
It would have been nice if she’d come with some hairpins like the smaller dolls to help pin the styles in place but you can get by just tucking the ends in or even use her sunglasses (note the sunglasses are a hair accessory and not meant for her face!).
Oh, and her clothes can be taken off and swapped with Straw Mary (the other seven inch doll)
Candylocks Scented Dolls – Collectible Surprise Doll
There are 13 of the Collectible Surprise Dolls to collect including one super rare. Once you have a collectors guide it’s pretty easy to work out which doll your buying based on their hair colour as there are two dolls per hair combination. We knew we were going to get either kelly Bean or Cotton Sandy.
These dolls come with a surprise bag inside that contains 6 accessories; 3 hair gems, a hair twirler and 2 hairpin accessories! The doll is wrapped up inside 15-inch lengths of super sof cotton candy hair that you unroll to reveal your doll.
We opened up Kelly Bean, much to the delight of Ro and Ra, who had gorgeous lightly scented jelly bean hair and also came with two hairpins styled a bit like brightly coloured sweets, a heart, star and square-shaped gem plus a hair twirler that matched her hair colour.
The hair gems have a velcro style back which isn’t that good at sticking to the hair so I’d advise not travelling about with them in situ. They work best by gently wiggling up and down on the hait so the velcro teeth attach. This does mean that some of the hair comes off and the gem needs to be de fluffed every now and then. The pins are the easiest to use and look great when pushed into finished hair styles
The small bodies on these dolls means their hair is a bit harder to style their hair. They almost need a little stand to put the doll into to keep them in one place but if you’ve got a friend who can hold them it helps. The hair also means they’re quite hard to stand so you need to use their hair as a prop… which actually works quite well!
Candylocks BFF 2-Pack
These cuties come in matching pairs and are the same size as the surprise doll. We had Cora Creme (who smelt of vanilla) and Charli Chip (who smelt of chocolate). They came with 4 super cute chocolate and cream themed hairpins and a hair extension attached to a decorative lump of cream hairpin. The hair extensions are great for wrapping around hairstyles to neaten them up.
These Candylocks Scented Dolls are great fun once you get used to the texture of the hair and how to style it. They’re perfect for helping kids learn to tie a knot and plait hair. the hair scent isn’t very strong and after a few days you need to put it up to your nose to be able to smell it.
There is some hair loss as you style and it does get little lumps the more you use it (it’s similar to roving wool used in felting) but that doesn’t stop it being used. The hair will last longer if the long lengths of hair arent pulled apart… so something to watch with younger kids.
Aged 5+ these dolls are perfect for kids who love styling dolls and toys.
