When AO.com asked me if I wanted to review the Hoover Discovery 2in1 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner – (PETS) I was more than happy to oblige as I’d been eyeing up this style of vacuum cleaner for a while. They always looked like they would be really useful for those light, quick cleaning jobs, such as getting cat hair off my sofa, and I liked the idea of a smaller, lighter body to help reach those high up dust collecting spaces.
The first thing I’m going to say is that this is a cordless vacuum cleaner and although it has a powerful motor it is NEVER going to be as good as a mains-powered vacuum cleaner… mains powered vacuum cleaner has a constant stream of energy to run the motor.
But that doesn’t mean that a cordless doesn’t have its place. So how did I get on?

How To Use The Hoover Discovery 2in1 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner
The vacuum cleaner has a little charge in when you unbox it but not enough to be of any value so make sure you put it on charge straight away as it takes quite a few hours (5 hrs) to fully charge. The attachments are pretty easy to take on and off although for some reason long reach pole is a bit tight connecting to the main floor
The power button has two modes: Temporary mode– where it stops and starts the vacuum cleaner as you press and release it and Continuous Mode which involves a switch that locks the ON button in place. I found the position of the power button on the handle meant it was easy to use but I also kept turning it on accidentally when I was just picking it up to change tools or even just to put it on the charger.
The battery level indicator is divided into 4 blue light blocks – 4 lights =100% charge, 3 lights= 75% chare, 2 lights=50% charge and 1 light 25% charge. The light flashes when the battery is near to running out. It lasts about 35 minutes from fully charged, which is plenty of time to do a quick light clean depending on the size of your house. Be aware that the battery will drain a bit more quickly if you use the Turbo Boost facility.

It’s quite quiet despite its power, I’d say it was on the same level as a good quality hairdryer. When cleaning deeper pile carpets press the Carpet button to engage the roller brush in the main floor cleaning head. When Carpet-Mode is selected a light shines from the front of the main cleaning tool and the roller brush spins around reaching into the pile of the carpet which is particularly good for pet fur. There is also a Turbo button that gives a power boost to the suction for any tough areas (this can be used in Carpet-Mode as well). Do not use carpet mode on wooden, laminate or vinyl floors. I sprinkled my floor with sand, sprinkles, dried rice and flour to see how the cleaner coped. Whilst it managed the sprinkles and flour fine (with no turbo) it struggled with the sand and some of the rice. But in Turbo Mode it managed fin and cleaned everything up very quickly.
Finally, it’s pretty light and easy to use which makes it perfect for cleaning up those little jobs that are often left or swept to one side for later because you don’t have time to get the main vacuum cleaner out. You do have to take care when standing it up because it’s top heavy and you are aware of some weight when cleaning high up areas. It does come with a wall attachment that allows you to hang the vacuum cleaner on the wall (screws included) but when hung the charging port is at the top and the lead is not that long so you do need to mount it directly above the plug if you want to neatly charge the vacuum cleaner whilst it’s in situ.
Hoover Discovery 2in1 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner Tools
Long Reach Pole
Use this pole to attach tools to when wanting to reach high up places or to clean floors. I
Crevice Nozzle
This is a handy 2in1 tool as it has a brush that can be slid up over the front for dusting. A minor grumble is that it would have been nice to be able to angle it at 45%
Upholstery nozzle &Dusting brush,
This clever tool again has an attachment that means it goes from being an upholstery tool to a dusting tool
Turbo brush
I love turbo brushes as they’re so useful for cleaning up pet hair/fur. This one is great for furniture, stairs and the car!
Combination floor nozzle (main floor cleaning tool)
This is a great main cleaning tool. It cleans hard floors and carpets and has a flexible neck which means its easy to manoeuvre around a room. The brushes pick up a lot of fur and carpet fluff, which is normal for these types of tool, and because of its great design, it’s really easy to take the brush part of the roller out to clean.

How To Clean The Hoover Discovery 2in1 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner
It’s really easy to empty the dust container and you have two options. Either use the release button to undo the bottom of the container (but make sure you do this over the bin!) or you can twist the container off by twisting it anti-clockwise. I prefer to do the later as you can then rinse it out at the same time. It’s also really easy to remove the filters to rinse and clean them (just be aware you need to leave them to dry for 24 hrs.
I am quietly really impressed with the Hoover Discovery 2in1 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner. It’s a really handy vacuum cleaner for quick clean up jobs and it’s small easily portable size means it’s perfect for cleaning all over the home and inside your car. It’s pretty light and I liked that you can switch between settings for harder surfaces and carpets really easily. The extra turbo boost is great for tougher patches of dirt and fur and means that you get a longer battery life by not having it on full blast all the time. Another nice touch is being able to choose whether you want temporary or continuous power… particularly useful if you need to carefully vacuum around thing and need a bit of extra control.
It wouldn’t be a good main vacuum cleaner for my busy family and large house but it’s a perfect back up cleaner and light everyday vacuum cleaner. If I lived on my own or had a smaller house I think I could manage with just this as my main cleaner but for now, it’s a much-loved 2nd in command.
