I’ve been slowly redesigning and decorating up our snug since Christmas. It’s taken a long time as this is one of the most used rooms in the house … it has the TV and it is one of the main routes into the garden in the Summer!
I was planning to do room room unveil when it was finished but Jen at LoveChicLiving has a fabulous competition on her blog about ‘Desk Landscaping‘ that this room redesign was perfect for. So here’s a sneak peak of the space I’ve created in the room for me to work from.
I do my practical work in various places around the house but the content is written up here. Up until now I’ve had to have my laptop well, err … on my lap in this chair! It’s a lovely comfy chair but not really good for beavering away on the lap top for a few hours.
Now though I have a dedicated work station. There’s still a little bit to finish. The skirting had to be repaired and damaged the plaster so a few holes to fill in and then the final coat of white.
I don’t like sitting with my back to a room so pulled the table forward so I could sit behind it and look into the room and be involved with what the room and other family members are doing. It also allows me to take in the beautiful stream of daylight that pours through the glass doors. It’s a very energising space to be in.
My ‘making’ areas are chaotic to say the least, so I like the space where I write things up to be clutter free. It helps focus my mind which in this busy household is hard to do. On the other hand I like to be surrounded by all the creative things that I make with the girls and blog about (I also have a craft blog called Zing Zing Tree) so having some wonderful twisted willow branches from my mums garden allows me to hang little bits of creativity around me that can change easily through out the year.
I’ve owned the oak console table (Laura Ashley) for many years. I liked it as it was fatter and shorter than most other consoles and also came with two oak stools that store neatly underneath (the other one is used elsewhere in the house). It also has a very handy drawer for keeping a pens, pads etc in.
Two very useful clip boards (see top pic) tuck neatly away in the alcove wall which means I don’t have to have pieces of paper littering the desk when I’m not using them and the black board (made out of an old picture frame that cost very little) provides the perfect place for scribbling down reminders, phone numbers etc. In fact I use that more than pieces of paper.
The old comfy chair is still in place and I can now look at the shelf above it and see all the little models and creatures that fill the nooks and crannies.

At night the space transforms completely and becomes a working piece of craft itself providing warmth, colour and texture … I am more than a little happy with my new space!
Oh and in case you were wondering what the corner used to look like. Well here it is. The room was originally my girls playroom. The corner was where our house bunnies lived and ruled … notice the missing skirting board. We had to remove it from their chomping teeth!

Its abso gorgeous! I’d be so pleased if it was mine.
The tree with the bird in, what can I say except how awesomeis that. 😉
lol, bringing the garden inside 🙂
What a lovely space – it looks so nice.
We converted a spare room in to an office last year and it is so nice to have a separate space for working.
What a beautiful, restful room. I’d love to have a work space like that.
The other half of the room is more on the chaotic side 🙂
Love the vibe of this room, relaxed and welcoming! I want to sit in that chair with a good book!
Oh wow, that is so so lovely. Like you I work on my laptop on my lap, but you have inspired me now to make a workspace – I have a little corner that I might just be able to transform.
