When we decided to celebrate my eldest child’s 10th birthday, we opted for a weekend getaway to Paris. Instead of staying in the bustling city, we chose the opulent Trianon Palace Hotel in Versailles, part of Hilton’s prestigious Waldorf Astoria brand. It turned out to be the perfect blend of luxury, family-friendliness, and convenience.

Getting There: Effortless Travel Options
We drove to the hotel via the Channel Tunnel, which made the journey seamless and stress-free (get great tips for long car journeys with kids here). But if you’re not interested in driving it’s easy to get the train to Versailles, and the hotel is just a few minuets walk away.
Perfect Location for Exploring
The Trianon Palace Hotel is ideally situated on the edge of Versailles. Just a 10-minute walk to the local train station, it offers quick access to Paris city center in only 30 minutes. It’s also a stone’s throw from the stunning Château de Versailles, making it a great base for exploring one of France’s most iconic landmarks. Keep in mind that while the palace grounds are open daily, the château’s interior is closed to visitors on Mondays.
Family-Friendly Luxury at Its Best
The Trianon Palace Hotel’s combination of grandeur and family-friendly facilities makes it stand out. From a dedicated children’s menu in Restaurant La Veranda to extensive outdoor grounds and kids’ clubs, the hotel ensures young guests feel welcome. Families can also enjoy the pool together, with kids allowed to swim until 7 PM.
The hotel’s entrance is breathtaking, featuring a long, marble-floored gallery adorned with chandeliers and elegant high-backed chairs. This space doubles as a venue for breakfast, afternoon tea, and evening drinks, creating a sophisticated yet relaxed atmosphere.
Spacious and Stylish Rooms
We stayed in the newer wing of the hotel, which faces the historic main building, connected via a fun underground tunnel. The rooms were spacious, modern, and thoughtfully designed, offering plenty of room for families. Connecting rooms were a big plus for us, providing the perfect setup for traveling with young children.
The bathrooms were functional yet stylish, featuring a combined bath and shower that catered to both kids and adults.

Breakfast Worth Savoring
Breakfast at the Trianon Palace Hotel is a highlight. Served buffet-style, it includes everything from a full English breakfast to a continental spread, along with fresh crepes and rich fruit juices. My children always judge a hotel by its breakfast offerings, and they were thoroughly impressed.

Dining Tips and Local Cuisine
While the hotel restaurant is exceptional, it’s a good idea to book your table in advance as it gets busy. Alternatively, the charming town of Versailles offers a variety of dining options, all within walking distance.
Conclusion: A Perfect Weekend Escape
The Trianon Palace Hotel combines the luxury of French elegance with a cozy, country-town ambiance. Its prime location makes it an excellent choice for exploring Paris and Versailles, whether you’re visiting as a couple or with family. The trip left us with wonderful memories, and I highly recommend this hotel for anyone planning a weekend getaway.

But if you prefer a different kind of adventure, train travel is an equally exciting option. Traveling through Spain and France by train with one of my girls was one of my favourite experiences, and we’re already planning to go interrailing around Europe this year!
