I’m a huge fan of DIY Christmas decorations, especially when they’re stylish, quick, and budget-friendly. And one of my favourites is this Bottle Top Snowflake craft. These delicate decorations bring a gorgeous flurry of white into your home and are perfect for adding a festive touch to walls, furniture, or even your Christmas tree.
I took inspiration from my earlier recycled crafts, like the Bottle Top Spring Flower and Plastic Bottle Top Flower, but I wanted something with a more seasonal twist. After a little experimenting, I came up with these gorgeous bottle top snowflake decorations, which are just the right mix of thrifty and beautiful.
Materials Needed to Create Bottle Top Snowflakes
Here’s what you’ll need to get started (with some of our recommended products linked for your convenience):

- Glitter: Opt for silver and or pale blue. I’ve used both coarse PVC glitter and fine polyester glitter (Martha Stewart brand) for added sparkle.
- 12cm white tissue paper circles
- Bottle tops: Recycle those old bottle tops for this thrifty craft.
- Strong PVA glue (white glue)
- Red household string: For hanging your decorations (you can use any colour)
Additional tools:
- Small containers for glitter and glue
- Paintbrush for spreading glue
- Sharp, pointed scissors

Step-by-Step Guide: How to Make Bottle Top Snowflake Decorations
Prep your bottle tops
Start by evenly coating the tops and sides of your bottle caps with PVA glue using a paintbrush. Once coated, place them face down into your glitter. Gently press your finger into the bottle top, and gently move the bottle top around, to ensure the glitter sticks to the edges. Carefully remove the bottle top and set it aside to dry.
You can also leave the bottle tops plain and miss out this step.

Cut Out Your Snowflakes
While your bottle tops are drying, it’s time to create the tissue paper base for your snowflakes. This craft uses two layers: a daisy-style petal and a snowflake, which together add lovely texture and definition.
Daisy Style Petal Instructions
Fold one tissue paper circle in half five times. Using small, sharp, pointed scissors, cut a petal shape along the folded edges, cutting halfway down each side. When unfolded, this will resemble a daisy shape.

Snowflake Instructions
Take another tissue paper circle, fold it in half four times, and cut out a snowflake pattern. Ensure you use sharp scissors to handle the small area for precise cutting.

Assemble The Snowflake
Open out the tissue paper snowflake and glue it onto the daisy-shaped petal using a small dot of PVA glue in the centre.

Need more help with the folds? I’ve included a step-by-step guide here to walk you through it.
Attach The Bottle Top
Once your glittered bottle top is dry, carefully dab some glue around its edges and press it into the centre of the tissue paper snowflake.

Gently press and hold it for a moment to secure in place.

Add A Hanger
To hang your bottle top snowflake, glue a piece of red household string (or any colour you like) to the back of the bottle cap.

Alternative Display Ideas
- Command strips are another great option for fuss-free hanging.
- Use Blu-Tack to stick them onto walls or furniture.

The Final Touch
These bottle top snowflake decorations are a beautiful way to upcycle materials that might otherwise go to waste. Whether they’re hanging on your Christmas tree, jazzing up door handles, or decorating your walls, they add a festive, handmade charm to your home.
