Over the last few years there has been a resurgence of interest in the art of calligraphy with Modern Calligraphy, Faux Calligraphy and Hand Lettering trending in particular and becoming an increasingly ‘must have’ tool in the design world. It’s used everywhere from the humble birthday card right through to high end fashion and big brand advertsing.
The marks we leave on paper are a part of us. A slight glimpse of our creative soul (there’s a reason why people can read a lot about a persons character from the style of their handwriting). So with the handwritten word slowly disappearing as a skill within the younger generations this newly found interested in penmanship has been warmly welcomed.
It’s also a wonderfully calming hobby to take part in. There’s a peace involved when practicing your drills and worksheets. Your mind is quiet and focussed, as you concentrate on the movement and flow of the ink over the page.
No wonder it’s so popular!
To mark this wonderful resurgence, ‘Manuscript Pen Company‘ are celebrating the art of calligraphy and hand lettering with their very fist ‘World Calligraphy Day’ (on 16th Aug 2017). It involves numerous events taking place around the world and we have our very own event at the Pen Museum,Birmingham that includes a series of workshops & demonstrations over the day,

I received some calligraphy pens in return for writing this post and I love them. It really is a wonderful skill to have even if you only learn to write a few phrases such as ‘Happy Birthday’, ‘with Love’ or your favourite quote.
