This gorgeous pipe cleaner daffodil craft is the perfect way to welcome the beginning of Spring. It adds a vibrant splash of color to craft rooms, homes, and even clothing. My daughters loved making these when they were younger—whether as gifts for their teachers or to wear proudly on St. David’s Day.
I have a particular soft spot for cotton pipe cleaners as a crafting material. Their soft bobbly texture adds something quite special to crafts and, at times, looks as if the finished piece had been knitted or crocheted. But you can use any style of pipe cleaner to make these.

Materials Required To Make A Pipe Cleaner Daffodil
For each pipe cleaner daffodil you will need
- 3x 15cm yellow pipe cleaners
- 1x 15cm or 30cm green pipe cleaner (the size depends on the length of the stem you want and how thick you want it. )
- 1x 15cm orange pipe cleaner
- PVA (white) glue or a glue gun – bostik, elmers or brian clegg red or black label glue work well
- scissors (optional – needed to cut 30cm pipe cleaners in half)
I prefer to use 15 cm pipe cleaners to craft the Daffodil Flowers with, as the 30cm length creates a much heavier and bigger flower head (see above image). If you only have 30 cm pipe cleaners just cut them in half.
I also prefer traditional cotton pipe cleaners but as mentioned you can use any style of pipe cleaner to make these.
How To Make A Pipe Cleaner Daffodil Flower

Bend three yellow pipe cleaners in half to find the middle. Open them almost fully again and twist them together in the middle to make a six-point star.

Take one of the pipe cleaner lengths and roll it inward to make a snail shell.

Continue rolling each length of pipe cleaner inot a snail shape until you have five petals. The is will leave one length unculred. I cut this off but you could just as easily curl it and have a six petaled daffodil.
Adding The Pipe Cleaner Daffodil To A Green Stalk
Once the pipe cleaner daffodil is finished it’s time to add the green stalk. This is a simple step but this must be done before you add the orange flower center
Take a 15cm green pipe cleaner and thread about 2 cm of it it through the center of the flower, fold it over the bottom end of one of the yellow petals and into the back of the flower again. Then twist the two pieces of the stalk together just behing the daffodil head.

Adding The Orange Trumpet To The Daffodil
Finally, take a 15cm orange pipe cleaner and curl it tightly into a snail shape. Then take your pointy finger and gebtly push the orange snail shep down onto the tip of your finger creating a small basket. Pull the end of the pipe cleaner to make the basket tighter. If you need to repeat this using your little finger to make a narrower basket shape.

This will make the center cup of the daffodil known as the trumpet. The trumpet will need to be glued inot place. Tacky white glue (PVA) works fine for this and is what I use with young children, especially if I have a large group of them. They will need to be left either on a radiator or in a warm place to dry. Alternatively you could use a glue gun which is quicker to dry but needs supervision with young kids.
The pipe cleaner daffodils make lovely colourful decorations for the home and would make a wonderful gift for Mother’s Day, teachers, and friends.
