What Are Snowdrops?
Snowdrops (Galanthus) are hardy perennials, and one of the first flowers to bloom as the seasons transition from Winter to Spring, often appearing as early as January. Their delicate white petals symbolize hope, renewal, and new beginnings. They thrive in woodlands, gardens, and even along roadsides, bringing a bright touch of colour to the chilly months.
Why Pipe Cleaners Are Great for Crafting
Pipe cleaners are one of my favourite craft materials. They are easy to use and versatile, making them perfect for kids and adults alike. They come in different types, including:
- Cotton Pipe Cleaners – Soft and bendable, giving a delicate look, ideal for flowers.
- Chenille Pipe Cleaners – Fluffier and thicker, great for plush, fuzzy designs.
- Metallic Pipe Cleaners – Shiny and decorative, perfect for festive and bold crafts.
- Extra Thick Pipe Cleaners – Sturdier, ideal for making structural shapes.
Whether you’re creating delicate flowers or fun, cute crafts like Pipe Cleaner Dancing Princesses or Pipe Cleaner Tiara Crown, pipe cleaners make crafting easy and fun!
Materials You’ll Need
Like my Pipe Cleaner Daffodils, these snowdrops are crafted using just a few pipe cleaners and some glue. For each snowdrop, you’ll need:
- 2 white pipe cleaners (for the petals)
- 1 green pipe cleaner (for the stem)
- A small piece of yellow pipe cleaner (for the stamen)
- Tacky white glue (PVA glue) or glue gun
I prefer using cotton pipe cleaners for a more delicate look, but fluffy chenille pipe cleaners work just as well. Coloured cotton pipe cleaners are readily available in the UK but if you can only find white and natural cotton pipe cleaners you can dye them or use Sharpie pens to colour them. And of course you can use chenille stems

Tip: These flowers were made using 15cm pipe cleaners, but you can use 30cm ones for larger snowdrops. But if using longer pipe cleaners, you may need to support the flower head to prevent drooping.
How to Make a Pipe Cleaner Snowdrop
Create the Petals
- Take two white pipe cleaners and fold them in half to find the center.
- Twist them together firmly in the middle, creating four separate prongs—each prong will become a petal.

- Take one prong and bend about 1cm from the tip to create a small fold. Continue folding the pipe cleaner down towards the center to form an oval-shaped petal. Pinch the end gently with each fold to maintain the shape

- Repeat this for all four prongs, remembering to pinch gently at the folds to maintain the shape.
- Once all four petals are made, carefully bend them inward to create a bell-like flower shape. For a more natural look, slightly curve each petal in the middle as well.

Make the Stamen
- Take a yellow pipe cleaner and fold it in half.
- Next bend each half in half again, to create a ‘W’ shape.
- Fold each remaining length in half again and reposition so you have a length of pipe cleaner with 8 tiny zig-zag sections.
- Cut one of the zigzag lengths off, and fold in half again to form a small stamen.
- Glue the stamen into the center of your flower and set it aside to dry.

Attach the Stem
- Take a green pipe cleaner and bend it about 0.5cm at the tip.
- Glue the bent end to the base of the flower head.
- For a more natural look, slightly bend the green stem before attaching.
- Set aside to dry completely.
