Drying Germini Flowers for Your Dried Flower Bird Craft
I pressed some Germini flowers (from a bouquets) and a few wild flowers from my garden a few days a go using a microwave oven flower press. And couldn’t resist having some fun making this round fluffy bird (if you want to see how the flower press works in detail have a look at my review here).

I’m still learning what the best settings are when drying out Germini, but I tend to do a couple of 20-second blasts on high heat followed by a couple of 20-second medium heat blasts. And then a few 10-second high-heat blasts. The key is to avoid burning the edges, especially with yellow Germini flowers. So be sure to check the petals after each session and air the flowers out.
The centre of the flower takes longer to dry because it’s thick and dense. The microwave press won’t dry it fully without burning the petals, so I finish the drying process by leaving the flowers on a radiator or in a sunny window for about an hour. This method works well, especially considering the large size of the flower head at the start.
The smaller delphinium flowers are much easier and quicker to dry out!
How to Create Your Dried Flower Bird Craft
Arrange the Dried Flower Pieces
Once your Germini flowers are fully dried, it’s time to start assembling your dried flower bird craft. Lay out all the pieces on your paper first—this way, you can easily try different colours, shapes, and petal arrangements before committing to glue.
I used a whole germini flower for the body, some individual petals for the wings and beak, bluebell flowers for the feet and a flower stem for the branch.
If you’re putting your dried flower craft in a picture frame use the frame mount to ensure that your final piece of art is centered properly.

Apply the Glue
Once you’re happy with the arrangement, use a small amount of tacky PVA glue to carefully secure the flower pieces to your paper. I recommend using a paintbrush to apply the glue carefully and evenly to avoid over-applying, as PVA glue can leave a slight shine when visible. Be gentle with the petals, as they might soften a little during this process, giving you a chance to adjust their position if necessary.

Allow the Glue to Dry
Leave your dried flower bird craft to dry completely. Be patient—this step is important to ensure that the flowers stay securely in place.
Framing Your Dried Flower Bird Craft
If you’re framing your dried flower bird craft, I recommend using a deep Ribba frame from Ikea. The extra depth in these frames prevents the glass from touching the delicate flowers, keeping your art safe and beautifully preserved.

Wow! This is just so cute. And certainly very creative.
The character you have created is adorable. That is a great tip that you can’t do the whole thing in the microwave. Hopefully we can keep radiators on now if the sun stays out and this rain goes away, then you can finish them on a sunny windowsill.
I am so impressed with how artistic this is and the colours.
