Brighten up your garden with this stunning laminated Garden Butterfly Craft! This fun craft is a fantastic way to use up craft scraps and get creative with your kids. These butterflies look beautiful flapping in the breeze and are weatherproof thanks to laminating, making them durable decorations for your outdoor spaces.
Our wooden garden fence looked a little bare, even with the plants we’ve added, so we turned it into an art display. Using the Fellowes Saturn 3i A3 Laminator, we created a collection of vibrant butterflies to pin along the fence. They’ve transformed the space into an eye-catching outdoor gallery that the whole family loves!
These butterflies are easy to make, encourage children to think about symmetry, and provide a perfect opportunity to repurpose leftover craft materials.
They’re great fun to make, get your kids thinking about symmetry, look beautiful flapping in the wind and are perfect for using up your arts n’ craft scraps.
To Make The Butterflies You Will Need
Paper butterfly shapes in various sizes,
Craft materials such as fabric scraps, felt, sequins, glitter, patterned paper, tissue paper, crepe paper, wool, ribbon, wash tape etc
Scissors
Glue
Laminator
Nails/Pins and a possibly a hammer
Using the craft materials decorate the paper butterflies making sure to mirror the pattern on both sides.so they are symmetrical.

The body part of the butterfly was added at the end by gluing on a strip of fabric or ribbon. Don’t use anything too thick as it won’t fir through the laminator. This green rope looked fantastic but we had to change it for something flatter.

Carefully place your butterflies in the laminator pouches and seal them carefully through the laminator.

Cut around the out line of the butterflies leaving about a 1cm margin.Fold them in half and press firmly along the crease with the back of your nail. Attach them to your fence with a small panel pin and watch them flutter in the wind.
Creative Ways to Use Your Laminated Butterflies
These versatile butterflies aren’t just for fences! Here are some additional ideas to bring them to life:
- Hang them from tree branches using string or fishing wire to create a charming outdoor display.
- Attach them to garden stakes or bamboo sticks and tuck them among flower beds or pots for a delightful surprise.
- Decorate indoor spaces, like pinning them to a bedroom wall or turning them into a butterfly mobile for a child’s room.
- Use them as table decorations for garden parties by placing them in small vases or attaching them to napkin rings.
- Add them to gifts or cards as a personalised embellishment that can be kept as a memento.
With so many possibilities, these laminated butterflies can brighten up any space, indoors or out, and add a creative touch wherever they’re placed.
A Craft to Enjoy All Year Round
We’re thrilled with the results and can’t wait to make more! My daughters are already planning a series of seasonal butterfly panels for the year, from pastel spring blooms to warm autumn tones. Why not give it a go and create your own butterfly display? We’d love to hear how yours turn out!
