Nadiya Hussain, past winner of Great British Bake Off, has created a range of kids baking sets for children, making it easier for them to join in with their own utensils.

Some of my fondest memories involve the pride and joy my kids have shown in their baking and cooking achievements, whether it be baking rock cakes, cupcakes and madeleines or helping prepare their own lunch such as duck wrap. And it has continued to stay that way as they have grown older and they become more adventurous and confident in the kitchen.

What’s In Nadiya’s Deluxe Kids Baking Set
The Deluxe kids Baking Sets contain 28 pieces of real bakeware for kids to use.
- silicone rolling pin
- silicone spatula
- silicone whisk with metal handle
- plastic sieve
- microwave-safe 2.5l mixing bowl
- colourful plastic measuring spoons
- 3 metal cookie cutters with safe silicone edging
- brightly coloured apron with a pocket
- 6x recipe cards (you can download them at the end of this post)

All the pieces have been designed with kids in mind so they are easy to use and brightly coloured.
The measuring spoons are colourful with nice sized handles and are clearly labelled.

The mixing bowl for example has a grip-rim on one side, and has an oval shape rather than being round.

And the cookie cutters in the have a protective silicone rim, that can be removed for cleaning.

Ingredients To Make Welsh Cakes
You will need
- 225 g plain flour
- 85g caster sugar (plus and extra 25 g for sprinkling at the end)
- 1tsp mixed spice
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 100g butter (room temperature)
- 1 egg
- 25 g currents
- splash of milk (optional)
- small amount of coconut oil or butter to wipe over pan before cooking.

You can use self raising flour instead of plain flour. If you do you need to leave out the baking powder.
How To Make Welsh Cakes
First sift the flour into your bowl. You don’t have to sift the flour but we did it to check how good the sieve was!
Next, add the caster suger, mixed spice and baking powder.
Add the butter and rub it into the dry mixture with your finger tips until you get a bread crumb consistency.

Add your currents.
Now, crack the egg into a small bowl and beat it until the egg white and yolk combine.
Finally, add the egg to your dry ingredients and knead together until you get a firm dough. If your mixture is too dry add a splash of milk.

Roll out your dough to about 1cm thick, and use a simple-shaped cookie cutter to cut out your welsh cakes.

How To Cook Welsh Cakes
Use a hot griddle, frying pan or an electric pancake maker.

Heat up your cooking pan of choice, wipe over with a little butter or coconut oil (not much) and cook for two minutes on each side or until they go a golden brown.
Take off the heat and sprinkle each side with caster sugar.
