Dried apple crisps are so easy to make and taste delicious, especially when sprinkled with cinnamon. They are a brilliant way to preserve and store even more of the lovely apples that I get from my trees. Plus they make a fantastic homemade gift.

Ingredients For Making Dried Apple Crisps
- apples (you can use most apples)
- ground cinnamon (optional)
- caster sugar (optional)
- sharp knife
- Baking trays
How To Make Dried Apple Crisps
You can do these with pretty much any apple.
Wash the apples and slice them so that they are a few mm thick (thicker slices take longer to dry out) and place them in a bowl. Sprinkle a generous amount of ground cinnamon over them and toss them using your hands. I found using my hands helped to spread the cinnamon over the apples better than a spoon.
Now place them on either wire racks or baking sheets and pop them in the oven for 4-5 hours on the lowest temperature (plate warming).
If you’re using a baking sheet you’ll need to turn the apple slices over every hour so the moisture can escape.
Finished Dried Apple Crisps
When they’re done they will feel a little leathery and bendy (they should not be moist) when they first come out. Leave them to cool for about half an hour and then put them in an air-tight jar where they will crisp up. They need to be totally cool before you put them in a container.
Oven Efficiency:
Because it takes quite a while to bake the apple crisps try and use all the shelf space available to you, including the floor of the oven. The apples will also shrink after a couple of hours allowing you to move them about and free up one if not two of the trays to put more apples in!

These look absolutely scrummy! And I know where there’s an apple tree with some apples still on it!
They look fantastic, a real autumnal treat.
