Motivate Active Kids With Jack’s Acrobatics | Book Review

Jack’s Acrobatics* by Rika Teaymans and Laura Van Bouchout, is a sweetly illustrated book that encourages families to get active with their kids using child-centric acrobatics exercises.

What’s Is The Jack’s Acrobatics Book About

Jacks Acrobatics centers around a little boy Jack who wants to put on an acrobatic show with a little help from his family. The book follows Jack joining in practice games and acrobatic exercises with various members of his family. The intent is that children reading the book will be inspired to try them with their own family.

It’s a brilliant way to get families to connect and spend time together whilst helping children master physical skills and improve their self-awareness.

Activity Sections

There are 3 main activity sections;

  • Somersaults (ball shapes)- I love the snowballs!
  • Pyramids (strength and support fun) – can you be a lookout??
  • Free flow (relaxing upper body and limbs) – a lot harder than it looks!

Each section hasย practice gamesย that help children progress to towards theย acrobatic exercises.

The Exercises

There are 24 different exercises and each one incorporates a delightful illustration, a little story, and step-by-step instruction. All cleverly put together to entice your child to push their physical boundaries with different members of their family.

The Bucking Donkey Acrobatic Exercise

The exercises cover more than just physical strength and flexibility. They alsoย tap into determination, fear-conquering, trust,ย andย teamwork. All of which will help your child’s development.

Little symbols help you understand at a glance what each exercise works on and there’s a nice little section at the end that explains the theory behind the moves.

What Did We Think Of Jack’s Acrobatics?

Jack’s Acrobatics is brilliant idea andย a fabulously fun guideย to help parents and grandparents get involved with fun physical activity with children,ย rather than being on the sidelines. The book’s visual style means that parents can read it with their children and children can enjoy it on their own, choosing the acrobatics they would like to practice and initiating play.ย

Jack’s Acrobatics is perfect forย super active,ย underactive kids, in fact, any type of kid, as they control the activities and pace you go at.

And don’t be fooled into thinking the exercises are easy either. Manyย of the exercisesย will require dedication and practice from adults as well, especially with older kids!

It’s great fun and my girls loved having a go with their Dad, myself,ย and each other. It’s a great way to get fit and work on core strength together.

This is child-led exercise at its best.

It looks like it would be fun to try some of the simpler exercises with my daughter. And perhaps some would work at the nursery I work at.
