What’s In The Box
I was really pleased to see very little packaging inside with the protective padding being made from corrugated card and just two small plastic bags. One that held the rear safety flag and the other containing the instructions and charging plug.
It’s super easy to unbox but because of the weight I’d recommend laying the box flat to unpack.

How Easy Is The RollPlay NightHawk To Set Up
It’s also super easy to set up as all you need to do is put the safety flag in its slot and charge it for 12 hours. Although to be honest we managed to get a good couple of hours fun with only 7 hours charge.
To charge the Rollplay NightHawk you lift the top of the seat, that unlocks with a ‘simple-to-use’ catch, and plug in the included charger. The lead length isn’t massive on the charger so you need to charge the NightHawk at an electrical socket with a fair bit of space around it: the NightHawk is quite large.

The main body balances centrally on a large back wheel and two smaller skateboard sized wheels to the front. Then there are two smaller wheels on each outer wing that are used when the NightHawk is tilted to turn.
Steering is controlled using the body, which does take get a little getting used to – lean left to turn left and right to turn right. If your child has ever used a micro-scooter they’ll pick this up quickly as it’s a similar technique.
It feels a little strange to start with but it works well and allows the NightHawk to easily manoeuvre around corners and obstacle. It has a fantastic 2-meter turning circle.
Rollplay Nighthawk Safety
It is quite heavy, but my girls were able to carry it on its own (younger kids will struggle) and the weight can be shared by using the two hand grips to carry it about with.
As with all ride on type toys that go at speed safety gear is important so a helmet, knee pads and elbow pads are a must. Mine also wore wrist guards. The side handlebars keep your child in place and help them get to grips with the steering but after a while, you’ll find they can manoeuvre without needing to hold on to them and just leaning.
The rear safety flag is there so you can keep an eye on your child when they’re zipping off inot the distance but if I’m honest I feel it needs to be a bit taller and maybe with a larger flag to be of any value. But it looks cool and I can see us embellishing it to make it stand out more.
With an RRP = £169.99 (Smyths Toys currently have it on offer) it’s an expensive toy but one that will last a few years and get loads of use. We’ve been taking it down to the park after school every day for the girls to let off some steam and they love it. It gets them out in the fresh air and gives their brain a rest before heading home to do some homework.
My only grumble is that I wish this had been about when my girls were younger and of course I now have to buy another one!
