Paper Napkin Dancing Princesses Pipe Cleaner Craft

These adorable Dancing Princesses are the cutest Pipe Cleaner Craft for kids, are mess-free, great for imaginary play and make sweetest room decorations.

My girls love using them to act out stories and plays. There’s something wonderfully tactile about them. The simple elegance and lack of features allows them to truly engage in their own ‘make believe’ world.

Materials For Paper Napkin Dancing Princesses Pipe Cleaner Craft

The great thing about these Paper Napkin Pipe Cleaner Princesses is that they are mess-free! There’s no paint, glitter or glue!

  • cotton pipe cleaners (15cm or 30cm) – if you’re not in the UK you may be restricted to white or unbleached pipe cleaners
  • paper napkins (plain or patterned),
  • cotton thread
  • pair of scissors

How To Make The Dancing Princesses Body

Take pipe cleaners per princess. Bend both pipe cleaners in half and twist the top of one to make the head.

Twisting The Pipe Cleaner To Make princess Body

Next, wrap the second pipe cleaner around the first to form a small body and arms, twisting at the back to tie off.

Making Pipe Cleaner Bodies

How To Make The Dancing Princesses Dress

Take one paper napkin and add some concertina creases.

Folding The Napkin 'Concertina Style' to create texture in the dress.

And then gently twist the napkin, to add texture to the dresses.

Scrunching the Napkin To Create Texture

Untwist the napkin and cut the very tip of the center off. This is where the head will go. Next open up the napkin and cut two small slits straight either side of the neck opening. These will be for the arms.

Cutting The Napkin To Make A Dress

Scrunch the napkin in slightly and lay the pipe cleaner body in place so you can trim the dress to length. Make sure you keep it as long as the legs as this helps the princess to stand up.

Making the Napkin Princess Dress

Insert the pipe cleaner body into the napkin dress with the arms pointing up and insert then carefully first, finishing with the head. Finally, tie some cotton around the middle to define the waist and your princess if complete.

The length of the napkin dress helps the Dancing Princesses stand up on their own.

Thicker 2/3 ply napkins are better as they help the little ladies stand up. I found 1 ply tore easily.

Hi, the ballerinas stand up on their own if you open up the legs so the back of the napkin dress is just touching the floor ๐Ÿ™‚

I bet you could also make the dress out of cupcake papers. As a matter of fact when I first looked at your post I thought that’s what the dress was made of. I think that might even be easier since the creases are already in the cupcake papers. Great idea though…these are simply adorable. Thanks!

Full size napkins or dessert napkins?

Either will work. You’ll just have to trim more off the full sized ones and the feet may show with the desert napkins
