The instructions were easy to follow and we made quite a few different types that you’ll see in some of the images below. We did have a bit of difficulty getting some of the eraser pixels to stick together and the first couple of erasers fell apart, but that was to do with time in the microwave (see explanation further down) and is pretty easy to rectify. In essence you…
Pick a template pull and off the correct number of individual eraser pixels.

Follow the design on your template, using the spacer pixels to fill any gaps.

When all the pixels have been put in you lock the design in place with the extra components (depending on the size of the eraser you’re making).

Add a little water to the top. This is so that theeraser doesn’t burn when it’s heated up. You don’t need it to soak in or go between the pixels. In fact, I think it’s better that no water gets between the pixels.

Then you close the maker tool and heat the eraser in a microwave to fuse everything together.

The maker tool needs to be cooled before opening and depending on the age of your child you may need to supervise the microwave part of the craft project.

Once cooled the maker tool can be opened, the spacer pixels removed and you should have a cute hand-made novelty eraser.

Everything inside the kit is made of solid good quality materials. The actual plastic maker tool worked easily and there was no misalignment when snapping it closed. There was a little bleed of colour from the pink to the clear spacer pixels, but nothing to worry about and it doesn’t affect how anything works or looks. It’s aged 8+ and is a little fiddly so younger ages may need a little help getting used to how to place the eraser pixels but whether they follow the templates or decide to design their own unique erasers, Pretty Pixels will provide hours of fun.
Problems Fusing Pixels
One problem you may encounter with the Bandai Pretty Pixel Eraser Maker is that not all the pixels fuse which means the eraser falls apart. The lines between the pixels don’t necessarily disappear when the eraser is finished. But if you carefully pull the edges of the shape you’ll see if any of the pixels are loose. If it hasn’t put it back in the maker tool (with the spacer pixels) and heat it again.

We found that we needed to heat it for much longer than suggested in the instructions. So for our microwave (900w), we put the eraser in for 2 mins 30 secs which was a lot longer than the instructions suggested. The larger shapes also needed to be ‘cooked’ twice with the shape being flipped over and rotated 180 degrees in the maker tool for the second heating. With so many different types of microwaves out there it was always going to be tricky getting the heating instructions spot on so if you do run into difficulties. It’s a bit like baking a cake in an oven… every oven is different and so you need to tweak things to suit.
Having said that once you work out what’s best for your microwave the results are super cute and great fun.
