Create your very own Felt Paw Print Christmas decoration—a simple and fun project that even the kids can join in on!
This Felt Paw Print Christmas Decoration is inspired by one of our favorite book cat characters, Splat the Cat. Splat The Cat is an adorable series of books by the talented Rob Scotton (he also wrote the fabulous Russell The Sheep). Readers follow the hilarious Splat and his best friend, Seymor the mouse, as they navigate the trials and tribulations of school and family life. The illustrations are hilarious and the sentiment beautifully touching.

How To Make A Felt Paw Print Christmas Decoration
Prepare Your Felt
First, use your cookie cutter or circle template to trace and cut two equal-sized circles out of the red felt. I recommend using a soft HB pencil to lightly mark the felt for easy cutting.

Next, it’s time to make the paw print. You can either freehand draw a paw shape or use a template. Cut the paw shape out of black felt, and don’t worry if the edges aren’t perfect—they’ll be covered in glitter later!
If your felt has creases, dampen it slightly and lay it flat to smooth it out. A gentle stroke over the surface will help the creases disappear. Let it dry fully before moving on.

Place the black paw print on one of the red felt circles and glue it in place. I used a hot glue gun, but for younger children, PVA glue is a safer and easier option. Just allow a bit more drying time.

Assemble The Christmas Decoration
Sew the two red felt circles together using the red cotton. Leave about a fingers width gap at the top to push the stuffing in … make sure you have enough thread to sew up the hole. You can use blanket stitch, running stitch, back stitch. It really doesn’t matter as all work well.

Add The Stuffing and String
Insert a small amount of soft toy stuffing to give the ornament a bit of puff.

Before you sew up the hole, cut a length os twine to hang your bauble from and knot the ends together. Insert this into the gap and tuck behind the stuffing. Sew the hole up and the string in place at the same time, continuing with the stitch you used originally. I try and push the needle through the string to help secure it in place.

Add The Glitter
For the final touch, apply a small layer of glue to the black paw pad tips.

Gently dip them in white glitter. I recommend doing this in stages to avoid excess glitter spread.

If you need to, use the back of your nail to tap the glitter in place as it can push slightly over the edges as it flattens the glue out. Now leave to dry and hang on your tree.

So it seemed appropriate to come up with this adorable Felt Paw Print Christmas Tree Decoration based on one of our most loved cat characters … Splat The Cat. W hope you love it as much as we do!
