Dressed in his icon Squirrel Club outfit, the Hey Duggee, Musical Duggee Soft Toy, is the perfect gift for little (and big) fans of the hit CBeebies show!
Just in case you haven’t heard of it, the Hey Duggee show promotes fun, exercise, learning and even more fun! The show is based around a children’s after school group called the squirrel club, which loveable dog Duggee is the leader of, and provides a safe and fun place for children to explore, learn and earn activity badges.

How Does The Musical Duggee Soft Toy Work?

The musical sounds come by pressing his right and left paws. The right paw (facing photo) plays three different pieces of music from the show. The left paw plays three different types of Duggee woofs and phrases plus the all-important ‘Hey Duggee’ theme tune.
Whenever each paw is pressed Duggee’s large floppy ears flap up and down and whenever the right-hand music plays, the badges on his bright yellow top light up in time to the music. Each piece of music plays once and then stops and the paw needs to be pressed again to play the next song.
Pressing either paw before the music has finished will stop it playing.
How Does Musical Duggee Look And Feel?
Musical Duggee Soft is super soft to the touch, with most of him being made of short, velvety fur fabric. His face is made of embroidered applique, as are his badges, and he has a shirt collar and tie, made of a different material, that feels strong and unlikely to tear. All the stitching appears to be of high quality, with no obvious weak areas.
There are a couple of hard mechanical areas. His base holds the hard plastic battery casing and if you squeeze the top of his head you can feel the ‘ear waggle’ mechanism, which also extends halfway down the ears. Musical Duggee is not a top for having a teddy fight with!
Musical Duggee Soft Toy Creative Learning
As well as being loads of free play fun you and use the Musical Duggee to help your kids learn about colour, shapes and even left and right. Kids love playing with their parents and they also love the repetitive nature of this type of gameplay.
Colour Play
There are loads of ways you can use Musical Duggee to talk to your child about colours you can see and point to them. For example
- “oh look at Duggee’s flapping brown ears.’
- “I love Duggee’s bright yellow top!”
- “Can you see Duggee’s purple badge?”
- “How many blue things can you see on Duggee?”
- “Are the blue colours, the same or different?”
- “Can you point to all the different brown parts of of Duggee?”
- “What colour light can you see behind the rhombus?”
Shape Play
Duggee has a few shapes on him as well that you can make a point of highlighting.
- ” Duggee has a big round nose and two small round eyes?”
- “Are Duggee’s eyes smaller or bigger than the orange circle badge?”
- “Which two badges have stripes on them?”
- “Which Badge shape is not a circle?”
- “Can you show me a rhombus?”
- “Which badge has straight edges?”
You can also talk about inferred shapes..
- “Oh look, Duggee’s ears look like triangles.”
- “Can you see the top of a heart shape in Dugggee’s mouth?”
- “What shapes could we use to draw Duggie?”
Learn Your Left And Right
Because Musical Duggees music is controlled by both the left and right hands you can use this to play a stop-start game.
“Can you make Duggee play music with his right hand?”
“Can you stop the music with his left hand?”
etc, etc.
Young kids are going to love Musical Duggee, especially if they are fans of his Cbeebies show Hey Duggee! My girls loved toys like Musical Duggee when they were young and would spend hours playing the music whilst dancing and jigging around their playroom. Fans of the show will have great fun being able to join the Squirrel Club and go on adventures with Duggie and there’s even a ‘Squirrel Club’ app you can download onto a phone or tablet
Musical Duggee is aged 10months+ is around 24cm tall and requires 3AA batteries (he comes with them installed already). You can buy him from Argos, Smyths Toys, Amazon and most good toy retailers.
